Evaluation Question 4

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Our film is directly aimed at teenagers 16+ but also be watched by older age groups, from the results of our current questionnaire we have gathered that more males choose to watch horror films more than females, this could be down to stereotypes. Males choose to watch more of the adrenaline rush, keeping you on the edge of your seat films. While females choose to watch more happy, cheerful, love flick films, again this could not be correct in all cases, as some might choose to watch the complete opposites  some girls could be interested in the horror genre even more than men.

Evaluation Question 3

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Discussion of your production company name and logo and the role of such companies
The reason why we named our production company as Eclipse Productions was it seemed like a catchy name and went well with our film genre, the reason for this is when their is an eclipse it gets dark and most horrors are filmed in the dark.
What does a production company do?
Production company is directly responsible because it handles basically everything to do with the film. Production companies are often either owned or under contract with a
media conglomeratefilm studio or entertainment company

MGM is an American producer, these are one of the big media companies which has been distributing films since the 1920s. They have released many films but the James Bond saga is the biggest they have distributed.

The idea a distributor and who that might be and why?
film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the marketing of a film. The reason their is a film distributor is that because they announce when and what platforms the film will come out in, they decide where the film is suited for. The reason why they do this is because they would decide what time and date and platform they will release it to make sure they maximise the profit they make.

Where the money might have come from for a film such as yours? The money from a horror would almost always come from the producers of the film, an amateur film company may fund us if they think our ideas can maximise their profit.

Why the various people are named in the titles - which jobs appear in titles and in what order and how have you reflected this?
The people who are named in our film credits throughout are the people which have played a key role creating and starring in our film. The director comes last as this is a stereotype, our group put the job titles in order of what became the key roles in the making of this opening film. The editor's came first as without these people our film would have a lot of errors in it, every film needs editing in it to make it a successful film.
All the people which star and appear on the credits all play a key role because without these there would be no film.

What your film is similar to 'institutionally'?
Our film is based on a horror story, horror films tend to come out around October time near as halloween is in October. Film producers do this because it tends to allow them to get profit and it suits that time. We produced our film at the end of September hoping that we would be able to get it produced ready in time for Halloween but because of the lack of money and team-members we couldn't maximise our chances of getting it released.

Our film is based around these saga of films, in the UK this film was released on October 9th 2009.
Dimension re-released Halloween II in North America on October 30 2009, this was done this so it coincides with the halloween holiday.

A media institution in which might distribute our product would be a small company which is looking for small budget films to distribute, a local institution in our area looking for films with low budgets would suit us. A worldwide distributor like 20th Century Fox wouldn't advertise and budget our film as the products we have used and the time we put into our film is not enough and the equipment from the world wide distributors.

Evaluation Question 7

7. Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
Since our Preliminary Task we have learned and widened our experiences with camera's and the use of different camera angle's.

180 Degree Rule
The 180 Degree rule is used as a filming guideline that participants in a scene should have the same left/right relationship to each other, filming should only take place within the 180 degree angle for example, if two people were holding a conversation the camera would only stay on the left/right side of the people talking- For example, in our final project we made sure when using the 180 degree rule the shots flowed more smoother trying not to make continuity or any technical errors, at first we struggled using this shot in our preliminary task due to our lack of understanding and practise, we practised our techniques for this technique in many shots, and also produced some research on how we could use this rule to its full potential in our main production, unlike on the preliminary our skills were basic due to lack of practise and knowledge.

Match on Action
Match on action is for example, if a person walked down through a corridor and then went to open a door, a camera can zoom in on the same persons's hand opening the door, it is also a cut or action or even a movement between to certain shots- same as 180 degree rule, this technique took time and practise, we got to use this during the film excessively, as we only used this shot a number of times, but when this came to our main production we took time to focus on how we could get this shot as good as we can, this was done as a team effort throughout.

Shot/Reverse Shot
For example this means if two people was having a chat facing each other, the camera would take the view of a person listening to the other person speak, usually a view from a persons shoulder- we used this technique through the whole of our preliminary, as this was our first time we sturggled to pull this off smoothly, due to a large gap of time we had to make our main production we resaerched tips on how to use the shot to its full effectiveness, we also had group meet ups, to decide how we could apply what we learnt into our shots.

Evaluation Question 6

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The two pictures below is showing one of the main programmes we used to make our film and the other picture is showing the equipment which we needed for our film opening.

Using a tripod plays a key part in making a good film, when using this piece of equipment we played around to start with to see what we could do with it. The tripod has a few key features which helped us a lot in the process of us making our intro. There are extendible legs at the bottom so when needed to record shots at different levels we could change the height to make our film shots right.

Another programme which was to play a key role in our film was Adobe Premiere Pro, this is an editing programme. Our whole group used this programme for when we have clips to edit or when we have re-filmed and need to add/delete clips.

We have used a few other programmes as well for our research and planning, our group used Prezi to make one presentation for our research & planning category. Another programme we used is Adobe Soundbooth, the group learnt from using programme that if you want to edit the music and make it mix in with the genre.

As a group we learnt that when filming just having a camera is not enough to make a good film, you need equipment and programmes and to spend a lot of time to get the film up to scratch.
